Being so well easily accessible and well connected makes Mayfair the perfect location to explore London from. But if you prefer to stay local you will also be spoilt for choice of activities and sightseeing. If you are looking for things to do in Mayfair take a look below.

Things to do in Mayfair

  • Parks

The largest (and one of the most beautiful) London Royal Parks, Hyde Park is located just on the edge of Mayfair and is a much-visit place when in London. Are you brave enough to swim in the cold water of the Serpentine lake? Or do you prefer to stroll through the greenery, admiring the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain?

Two more beautiful parks, Green Park and St James’s park are just minutes from Mayfair. Did you know that pelicans live in St James’s park?

  • St James's Palace

St James’s Palace is based on Marlborough Rd. and serves as one of the official Royal residencies (although not as famous as Buckingham Palace). It was originally built in 1536 and Anne Boleyn spent the night after her coronation here. Princess Diana also spent some time in St James’s Palace after her divorce. If you are visiting St James’s palace you should make sure you check the Queen Alexandra Memorial, beautifully crafted by Alfred Gilbert.

  • Museums and Galleries

If you are in the mood for some art and culture, Mayfair will not disappoint. Take your pick between the Marlborough Gallery, Faraday’s Laboratory and Museum (it’s free!), the Handel and Hendrix Museum (George Frederic Handel and Jimi Hendrix both lived here), and the Royal Academy of Arts.

  • Bars in Mayfair

There is plenty of glamorous and exclusive cocktail bars in Mayfair to treat yourself at. If you are feeling fancy you should head to the Bar at the Dorchester, a 5-star hotel in Mayfair, or the American Bar at the Beaumont. Mr Fogg’s and Mahiki are at the top of our list for something a little bit quirkier.

  • Restaurants in Mayfair

Eating in one of the swanky restaurants in Mayfair makes for a unique (if a tad pricy!) experience. But whilst you are there, you should definitely indulge and treat yourself to some dim sum at Park Chinois or some beef fillet carpaccio at Hush. However, there are some more affordable options that won’t break the bank, such as Delfino or Titu.

  • Shepherd Market

A lovely square dating back to the 18th century, Sheperd Market is home to picturesque traditional English pubs (the Ye Grapes was founded in 1882), wine bars, restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. Sheperd (not Shepherds!) is only a 5-minute walk from Green Park tube station and you must pay it a visit in you are in the area.
