Once I was in a hotel in the United Kingdom and asked for a queen-size bed. The employee looked at me a little confused and said, "You mean a double?" In the United States, a "double" means two beds, so I had to explain that I wanted a large bed, not two smaller ones.

I am sure similar problem is faced by British travellers when they travel to America and Europe. A "double" in the United States is two beds pushed together, while a "double" in Europe is one large bed. So, if you ask for a "double" in the United States, you will probably get two beds, but if you ask for a "double" in Europe, you will get one large bed.

Types of Rooms

In the United States, there are generally three types of rooms: standard, deluxe, and suite. A standard room is usually the smallest and least expensive, while a suite is the largest and most expensive. Deluxe rooms are in between standard and suite in terms of size and price.
