Trocadero Arcade London

My childhood favourite memory is going to SEGA World at the London Trocadero. I was maybe 8 years old at the time and my parents had taken me on a day out in London. It was a hot day and we were all sticky from walking around. My dad suggested going into SEGA World to try and win me a toy. I remember being so excited as I had never been in an arcade before!

We went in and I immediately ran to the Sonic the Hedgehog machines. I must have played them for hours, trying to get enough tickets to win a prize. In the end, I didn't win anything but it didn't matter. I had so much fun playing all the games.

It's a shame that SEGA World is no longer there as it was a great place for kids (and adults!) to enjoy some gaming fun. But I am sure that London's Trocadero Arcade is missed by kids of 1995 just as much as it is by me!

The Trocadero was an iconic London landmark in the 1990s. It was a huge, multi-storey building full of arcades, restaurants, shops and cinemas. It was the perfect place to spend a day (or night) with friends. Unfortunately, the Trocadero is no longer with us. It closed down in 2011 and turned into sustainable Zedwell Hotels, which helps brings more tourists to the area.

The Trocadero was a great place full of happy memories for many people. It will be missed by all who loved it. If you're feeling nostalgic for the Trocadero like me than for you I have put together some memories about the arcade and Pepsi SEGA World.

History

The Trocadero first opened in 1986, as a tie-in to the movie Aliens. It was an immediate success, and quickly became a popular spot for gaming and entertainment. In its early years, the Trocadero was known for its vibrant atmosphere and exciting games.

SegaWorld London Trocadero

The launch of SegaWorld London, an indoor theme park occurred on 7 September 1996. The Trocadero was home to a massive statue of Sonic the Hedgehog at the front entrance. Pepsi sponsored the Pepsi Max Drop and from 1997 the Pepsi IMAX cinema, which was the first 3D IMAX cinema in the UK. The Salon, a daily reality show produced by Channel 4, had its second series premiere there. The Trocadero also had its own TV station, TroTv.

SEGA World Entrance

One of the most vivid memories of the SEGA World Entrance was the smell. It was a mix of sweet and sickly smells, like candy and vomit. But I didn't mind it. The smell was part of the experience and it made me feel excited to be there.

The SegaWorld entrance was one of the most iconic things about the Trocadero. It was huge and impressive, and it was impossible to miss. It had a huge statue of Sonic the Hedgehog, and it was always brightly lit up. It was a great place to take photos, and it was always busy with people coming and going.

The entrance was really exciting for kids, and it was always packed with people who were eager to play the games and have some fun. The SegaWorld entrance was a huge part of the Trocadero experience, and it will be sorely missed by all who loved it.

I also remember how loud it was inside. It was always so busy and there were so many people shouting and laughing. It was impossible to hear yourself think! But again, I didn't mind it. I loved the noise and the chaos. It made me feel alive.

Sonic the Hedgehog

SegaWorld London Trocadero was a great place for kids. There was a big statue of Sonic the Hedgehog at the front entrance. Kids could watch TV shows about Sonic and they could also watch movies in 3D. It also had a statue outside and it was really fun to explore.

The Pepsi IMAX Cinema

The Pepsi IMAX Cinema was the first 3D IMAX cinema in the UK. It was located at the Trocadero and it was sponsored by Pepsi. The cinema showed movies in 3D and it was a great place to watch movies. Pepsi-sponsored IMAX cinema closed in March 2000 shortly after the newer London IMAX opened on the South Bank.

The Pepsi Max Drop

The Pepsi Max Drop was a sponsored attraction at the Trocadero. It was a drop ride that took people from the top of the building to the bottom. The ride was popular with kids and adults alike. The Drop Ride closed around after IMAX was closed. (the Drop Ride was relocated to Funland in Hayling Island).

TrocTv

TrocTv was the Trocadero's own TV station. It showed TV shows about the Trocadero and its attractions. TroTv was a great way for people to learn about the Trocadero and its many attractions.

Funland

Following the loss Sega's sponsorship in 1999, Segaworld became Funland, named after the original arcade opened in the 1990. It was still a great place to visit, with plenty of games and rides to enjoy. I have many happy memories of spending time here with my friends.

The Trocadero Today

The Trocadero is no longer with us. It closed down in 2011 and turned into sustainable Zedwell Hotels. However, the memories of the Trocadero live on. It was a great place full of happy memories for many people. It will be missed by all who loved it.
